MORE than 12,000 delegates attending 22 conferences at the Cairns Convention Centre will inject $65 million into the region's economy this year.
Centre general manager Ross Steele said after the completion of a $6.3 million refurbishment at the end of next month, there would be 22 conferences, including 13 international, during the next six months.
He said one of the larger conferences would be the International Coral Reef Symposium in July with more than 2000 delegates.
Mr Steele said the centre had the largest international conference mix of any convention centre in Australia with more than half from overseas.
"We have been in the international market for a long time, choosing to change our marketing strategy as a point of difference when a number of new convention centres were being built in Australia," he said.
